sdc2There are three levels of local Government in Shipston on Stour:

  • the Town
  • District
  • County Councils

Stratford-on-Avon District Council (SDC) provides a number of services that affect local people.  These include:

  • Planning
  • Refuse collection and recycling
  • Council Tax and Business Rate collection (on behalf of all authorities that level Council Tax – the Town Council, the County Council, and the Fire and Police Authorities)
  • Council Tax benefit
  • Housing benefit
  • Leisure centres and sports pitches (although not the Sports Club here)
  • Parking enforcement (although there are still some occasions when the police will become involved)
  • Housing – SDC no longer has any council houses, but works closely with local housing associations.  SDC does maintain a common housing waiting list for the associations
  • A wide range of environmental protection responsibilities (including noise)
  • Food safety and inspection
  • Business advice (including the Shipston Business Centre)

Shipston’s two District Councillors are Richard Cheney (elected in 2008) and Philip Vial (elected in 2010).
