A man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud, money
laundering and burglary following a series of suspicious incidents in south
Warwickshire.
Police in Shipston are investigating a number of
reports of a man visiting homes and asking the occupants for money for fuel or
decorating materials, claiming that he has a problem with his bank card.
Since the first incident was reported on July 1, where
a man in Cherington handed over £5, a number of similar incidents have been
discovered some of which involve much larger sums of money.
The offender promised to repay the cash but has not
done so.
They believe that there may be other victims who may
not have reported incidents and are urging them to come forward.
Police in Gloucestershire are also investigating
reports of similar incidents.
On Friday, August 1, police on patrol in Shipston
arrested a 58 year old Gloucestershire man in connection with the incidents.
He was taken into custody for questioning and later
released on police bail.
Anyone with information or believes that they may have
been a victim is asked to contact PC Richard Grove or PC Clair Price at
Shipston police station on 01926 415000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800
555111.
