Of the twelve grants made by Stratford District Council to local organisations applying for help with funds for festivals and events, a quarter were allocated to Shipston.
In addition to a grant for the Rotary Victorian Evening, held in December, (pictured above) other recipients are the organisers of a Local Producers Fair, planned for May 2010 and a Mid-Summer Festival which will take place in July.
The underlying theme of all events across the District who have received support is food and drink, with grants being provided for beer, ale and food festivals in Southam, Harbury, Studley and Ettington.
On announcing the awards, Councillor Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio Holder on the District Council said, ―I am delighted that through the small amount of funding available, we have been able to support a wide range of events across the district.
Promoting economic vitality in the District by funding projects supporting economic growth and recovery is crucial in the current economic climate.
Local businesses shape the character of our community and the more support local Councils can provide now, the better the prospects for businesses will be in the future,‖
Applicants had to demonstrate that their event or festival would support the local economy and specifically involve businesses from the local area.
